A Lot of Awesomeness

One of our very favorite things we got to do on this trip was visit some of the families that Bish & Leila have become good friends with. One family was nice enough to invite us to their house for dinner one night! As a mom of 2 picky eaters, I was a bit nervous, but to my great astonishment, they both ate a ton of food! We didn't tell them that they were eating seafood, and they chowed down. And I couldn't blame them. The food was delicious! We had some yummy kabobs that had the sweetest peepers I've ever tasted, some rice and shrimp dish that Toby and Megan can't stop talking about, a beautiful salad and some more food that I didn't even get to! We were very full! But it was so sweet to be there to hear the sweet things they said about Bish & Leila, and I know you're wondering how would I know what they were saying, and you're right - I didn't understand every word but I knew they were speaking kindly, and lovingly about those two great people. (I also giggled when someone trying to speak spanish said a naughty word in spanish and they were all giggling, especially when the mom repeated it  - it made me realize all family dinners are pretty much the same! Talking and laughing and laughing when Mom says something funny!) It was a wonderful experience that I hope my kids don't forget!
One new thing we did this visit was to go to some pretty amazing waterfalls! I included just a few pictures on this post to prepare you for the next one which will be all about the waterfalls!

I bet you've never seen Sam eat before! That's the rice and shrimp dish we loved.

It takes almost 2 hours on windy dirt roads that no minivan should drive on. So we would stop at some of the villages to look around. One stop a guy had an iguana and turtles to look at.

This river is almost empty. The rainy season just ended. During the rainy season, it's overflowing. There were a lot of people doing laundry down there!
 The waterfalls! So fun!
Eating rice and beans at the 'cafeteria'.
That's our guide, Perfecto, sitting across from Bish. And seriously, that's his name, and he was the nicest guy.
That's what your van looks like after 4 hours of off roading.
The boys LOVED waking up every morning and going to watch the kids come to school, and they also loved buying these pancakes from this lady. So good! This is also the place where Sam's head would get rubbed the most, but I guess since it was early he didn't mind as much.
