Zion

Fall Break came and went and we spent it in Zion! It was amazing! This all came to be because Toby's parents told us they wanted to take the Fab 5 (the 5 grandsons all born one after another, including Max & Sam) to California during fall break. Sweet! When they told us, I jokingly said that we should go on a trip without them. Then I got thinking about it more and realized that we could really make this happen! Do a trip that they wouldn't enjoy! And hiking big hikes in Zion was one of them! So we booked a hotel and off we went!
Poor Megan got to spend her break waking up at 5 am two mornings. We knew the crowds would be fierce and Toby still had to do some work while he was there, so we had to do the hikes fast. We did Angels Landing the first morning (so glad we didn't have Sam, he would have died falling off a cliff) and were planning on doing The Narrows the next morning, but it was soooo cold, we decided wading through frigid water would not be ideal. Instead we did some of the shorter hikes like Emerald Pools, Weeping Rock, and the beginning of The Narrows. We had a lot of fun and hopefully Megan didn't get too sick of her old parents.
A few things I don't want to forget: Megan trying to climb up a rock and not getting anywhere while I laughed my head off. Getting in the car after the hikes and me turning the heat on so high that Toby and Megan were sweating and couldn't breathe, but my hands were STILL cold. Taking a glorious nap in the hotel room while Toby went to work. Poor Toby.
I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking!
If you look close in front of us you can see the chains going up the skinny part of the orange rock, we are about to scale the last part of Angels Landing, with a cliff on both sides.

We made it to the top!!! Did I mention it was freezing! Sooo cold, the sun doesn't hit a lot of places because the rocks are so high, and there was wind, brrrr.

We didn't fall!

Emerald Pools - if you look ahead of us to the right, that's a huge landslide that cuts off the rest of the trail. Bummer

At the entrance to The Narrows

Toby & Megan did baptisms at the St. George temple. We stopped in Cedar to do the same, but the temple was closed.
